ENVIRONMENT

An aspect that makes the Montessori classroom exceptional is the prepared environment. There are six principals for the prepared environment which include: freedom, structure and order, beauty, nature and reality, social environment, and intellectual environment. The Montessori environment is always clean, beautiful, and prepared for the students. The materials are attractive and inviting for the children to explore. All lessons are accessible to students, and students take responsibility for the materials and the classroom. The Montessori classroom is a happy, peaceful environment where each child can reach their fullest potential.

The lessons are organized in seven different areas in the classroom including: math, language, science, culture, practical life, sensorial, and art. Each area has materials which are in sequential order, all with self-correcting pieces needed for a child to be successful in their work. Children are presented lessons as they are ready for that particular skill. Once a lesson is mastered, they are able to move to more challenging work.
