STUDENT WORK

"The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child's own natural desire to learn." -Maria Montessori

The Montessori classroom is a prepared environment in which children are able to choose their lessons and work at their own pace. The classroom includes mixed ages (3-6) which encourages collaboration and socialization. Children are given an uninterrupted work time in which they are given time to choose lessons they have been shown by the teacher. Once a lesson has been presented, practiced, and mastered independently by the student, the teacher can then move them to the next sequential lesson or skill. The Montessori materials are hands on materials which cultivate a child's natural desire to learn. The classroom and materials are child centered and promote independence and intrinsic motivation.
